Always hunting for fresh new ideas amidst the dining, entertaining, and party-hosting scene, I was very interested to hear about Andrea Bearce Duty starting up Bakesale here in Austin. I’ll admit, though, that it took a little nudging on her part, in the form of an email introduction, that I finally rung the girl up and invited her over to my house. She’s a NYC culinary-school trained pastry chef, who’s completed a number of stints in fine dining establishments around Austin, and earlier this year took the leap to start up her own little baked goods and pastry delivery business.
Things I love about her:
1. She loves some good food porn, to which I am an avid subscriber. I have dozens of emails to prove our shared love of good food, better food blogs, and delicious looking food photography.
2. She’s a pastry chef. Not just someone who bakes cakes, or cupcakes [there’s enough to go around in that department], but someone who loves to collaborate with her clients about their favorite desserts, find what’s in season, and is willing to do taste testing to convince you.
3. She’s keen on moving into the desserts scene for weddings and events. Think of anything beyond the usual fare, and she can make it. Think pear tarts, mini cheesecakes, berry crisps, caramel apples, to personalized caramel corn. Anything is possible! Can you imagine?
You’ve seen her work around these parts before as she was critical in making our dessert spread from our Folk inspiration shoot look delectable. Like so:
And Bakesale travels! Andrea recently went to Marfa over the July long weekend to whip up a Mexican-inspired spread that looks pretty incredible:
She’s just started up a blog to chronicle her adventures in event dessert-ification, and I’m keeping tabs. In fact, I’m just putting it out there that some pumpkin + gingersnap cookies + whipped cream trifle in little mason jars should definitely appear somewhere in the next six months. I mean, if you have to befriend anyone in the wedding or event-planning experience, the dessert folks rank very very high on my list …
